Lead is a toxic metal that is naturally occurring in the earth’s crust. Lead and lead compounds have been used in manufacturing compounds such as paint, fuel, batteries, cosmetics, industrial products, plastics, bearing alloys, insecticides and ceramics.

Some of the most common sources of lead exposure come from Lead-based paints found in older homes, drinking water and pottery or crystals used for eating.

Exposure may also occur through the inhalation of dust containing lead emitted by automobile exhaust and the discharging of firearms.

Occupational exposure to lead in the workplace may also occur.
